Background

Dean Collins is the founder and president of Axis Companies, LLC (Axis), an interdisciplinary design and development firm committed to creating sustainable and innovative places for future generations.  At Axis, Dean manages the day to day operation of the company, oversees business development operations and works on complex planning and design projects.

Dean began his career in 1989 working for the engineering consulting firm Bergmann Associates in its transportation and site development groups. Here he designed and managed bridge and roadway design projects and completed numerous transportation studies for both public and private consultants.  Within four years, Dean was ready for a bigger challenge and joined start-up engineering firm, FRA Engineering.

At FRA Engineering, Dean led the transportation design group where he prepared traffic studies, transportation safety studies, bridge and roadway design plans, railroad crossing and siding plans, traffic signals, and hydraulic studies. Offsite bridge and roadway plans were prepared for State, County and Local DOT’s as well as major corporations such as McDonald’s, Rite Aid, CVS, Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart and several large shopping center developers around the country. In addition, he completed design drawings and drainage studies for single-family and multi-family residential complexes, office parks, commercial developments and institutional and manufacturing facilities.

In 2003, Dean was made a partner and moved to Georgia, where he opened an office to expand FRA’s service offerings throughout the southeast. In 2007, FRA was acquired by T.Y. Lin International, an international consulting firm with 32 offices in the United States and 12 offices in China and Southeast Asia. As Director for Facilities and District Director for the Southeastern United States, Dean was responsible for all vertical planning, design and construction-related services throughout the Americas and collaboration with all sister companies throughout the world. This included municipal buildings, office buildings, parking garages, warehouses, multi-family residential housing, restaurants, dining halls, power plants and transit facilities such as maintenance buildings and stations/platforms.

Dean’s business is in Alpharetta, GA.  He is a huge proponent of the metro communities and serves on several executive boards.  These boards include but are not limited to the Gwinnett Chamber, North Fulton Chamber, and Aurora Theatre. He is also chairs the Gwinnett Technical College Board of Director and sits on the boards of Rainbow Village, Gwinnett Police Foundation Board, Red, Blue and You, the Advisory Board of the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Metro Atlanta Regional Business Coalition.  He is an ARC LINK (Leadership Involvement Network Knowledge) annual participant and graduate of RLI (Regional Leadership Institute).
