Background

William H. “Marty” Martin is the Director of Public Works for the City of Sandy Springs.  He has served the City providing Public Works and Capital Program Delivery services since January 2007.  In his current role, he leads a staff of 45 plus 14 contract partners with an annual budget of $17.3 million providing services for the City to include Stormwater Management, Traffic Management and Transportation Planning, Right of Way and Field Services Operations and Maintenance, Capital Improvement Program and TSPLOST Program Delivery.  His current active capital programs budget exceeds $202 million.

Prior to joining the City of Sandy Springs, Mr. Martin served as an officer in the United States Air Force for over 23 years.  He held assignments as a civil engineering officer, led two squadrons and served as a group commander.  He had the honor to serve in overseas assignments in both South Korea and Southwest Asia.  Mr. Martin retired from active duty in 2006 in the rank of Colonel.

Martin holds a Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University.  He is a registered architect in the State of South Carolina and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.  He and his wife Nan have three children.
